Nike is on to something. Just do it.
I recently had a discussion with a kindly fellow about his job. He didn’t seem necessarily crazy about where he was at in his career. I believe he was 30 years old with a wife and 3-5 kids (I’m not the best with numbers). Let’s split the difference and say he had 4. Anyway, he was telling me how he wanted to start a blog that would hopefully lead to something bigger.
“Solid!” I said.
I then asked him when he was planning on starting it. He told me he has been wrestling with what the blog should be about for the past 4 years.
“Family… Owning a business… God… Being a dad” He went on.
“Yes!” I said. “All of the above. You just gotta do it!”
He then continued to tell me even if he decided what topic to blow readers minds with, he still hadn’t landed on the look for his site. He didn’t want it to look like a prepackaged, canned blog site. He wanted something custom. Pimped out. He should have called Xzibit.
I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this. You’re never going to accomplish anything if you can’t just do it. Get your feet wet. Heck, dive in and get soaked. The best way to learn is by grinding it out and figuring it out as you go.
Whether it’s starting a ministry, business, a blog, or any other modern human activity this profound principle applies: You can’t accomplish anything if you don’t start it. Mind blowing, right?
